The optional Replication & Tiering module provides Backup & Archive and Hierarchical Storage Management to create a complete project workflow system.

Features

Striking Simplicity – virtually no IT expertise required to setup and maintain
Rely on the most powerful and simplest shared storage solution on the market. Access the control panel via web UI. There is virtually no configuration required and no need to manage software licenses.

Superior Performance – support for 8GbFC and 10GbE
Use the fastest network connections available for maximum bandwidth and performance.

High Availability (failover option)
Don’t miss a beat with redundant Metadata controller, power supply and cooling system for instant failover capability.

Easy Floating Licensing – install drivers on any number of computers
Tiger Serve includes 15 floating, central client licenses. Additional licenses are available in packs of 5. As long as a license is available from the license pool, a client computer can connect to the shared storage, install the Tiger Client software, and then gain access to the share. Disconnecting the client returns the license to the pool and makes it available to another client computer.

Collaborative Workflow – virtual volume creation with Avid bin locking
Optional projectStore PRO further enhances your collaborative experience with flexible user/team management, powerful transcoding, fast searching, and easy archiving tools. projectStore PRO is ideal for small, medium and large workgroups. More than just a very flexible tool to organize your projects, projectStore PRO allows the entire production team to collaborate much more effectively. The impact on film editors, directors of photography, directors and producers, is significant as everyone can now quickly review content at any stage of the production, either locally or over the internet.

Automatic Lifecycle Management – replication, purge and archiving
The optional Replication & Tiering module allows Tiger Serve to replicate itself to a specified target destination (such as network share, NAS, DDN WOS or other cloud storage, Xendata). Tiger Serve acts as your high-speed front-end storage and performs lifecycle management. With the Replication & Tiering Module, there is always room for your new projects on Tiger Serve as aging files that have been replicated to the nearline storage are automatically deleted from the high-speed storage when space is needed. A reference file remains in place, so Tiger Serve can automatically bring your data back online as soon as you access it.

24/7 Hotline – contact our professional support at all time
Tiger Serve was designed and tested by Tiger Technology to require as little maintenance as possible. It is nevertheless backed up with the industry’s best 24/7 Hotline…. Just in case!

STORAGE REQUIREMENTS

Tiger Serve supports any NTFS-formatted volume to which the appliance has Read & Write access. You can connect the appliance to the shared storage via Fibre Channel (directly or using a FC switch). Performance is dependent on the network connectivity and native performance of the storage volume.

How It Works

With the help of Tiger Serve you can achieve a true SAN workflow, providing multiple client computers with concurrent high-speed access to NTFS shared volumes. For the purpose, both the appliance and the client computers must be connected to the shared storage using a Fibre Channel switch. To prevent data corruption when multiple computers access the same file system, Tiger Serve acts as a metadata controller that processes requests, coming from clients using the LAN connection. Each computer that has the Tiger Client software installed can mount the volumes the appliance has shared. If you have specified that the appliance is part of an Active Directory domain, requests for access to the shared volumes are authenticated against the domain controller. If Tiger Serve is deployed in workgroup environment every user has full access to all data on the shared volumes.

Computers that don’t have the Tiger Client driver cannot mount volumes shared to Tiger Clients although they are connected to them. These computers can only mount the volumes that Tiger Serve has specified that it doesn’t manage and protect.

The main advantage of Tiger Serve is that its server nodes act as a high availability cluster – should one of the server nodes in the appliance fail, the other one immediately takes over processing requests, coming from Tiger Clients, thus ensuring that they have constant access to the shared volumes.

Besides acting as a metadata controller on your SAN, Tiger Serve greatly optimizes the shared storage workflow by providing you with data replication and space reclaiming services, automatic defragmentation of the shared storage volumes, storage usage and connectivity monitoring tools, etc.

Using the web interface you can also reformat existing volumes, create new volumes and check and repair the file system of volumes.

Tiger Serve acts as the metadata controller and storage manager for the volume to which it has been connected. To deploy Tiger Serve in your facility you simply need to connect the client computers to Ethernet or Fibre Channel, then access Tiger Serve via a web browser to download and install the client software. Use the web UI to add a name and identify the storage, and then simply install the Tiger Client software on the client machines which will then give you access to the storage.

The 10Gb Ethernet ports fully support FCoE connections when a CNA (“Converged” network adapter) is used in the client workstation. The FCoE protocol is more efficient/reliable because it operates directly above Ethernet in the network protocol stack, in contrast to iSCSI, which runs on top of TCP and IP.

All performance metrics, storage settings and statistics can be controlled/viewed by any computer through the web interface, which is accessible from any device on the same network with a web browser.

If Tiger Serve does not detect file activity for a few minutes, automatic defragmentation of the file system will kick in. As soon as Tiger Serve detects activity, it stops defragmenting. A similar process occurs when projectStore PRO is creating proxies to avoid affecting the shared storage performance.

Using optional projectStore PRO you can create any number of virtual volumes with Avid bin locking capability. These volumes can then be access through a simple check-in/check-out procedure that offers either shared or private workspaces.

The optional Replication & Tiering module provides Backup & Archive and Hierarchical Storage Management to create a complete project workflow system.
